Single stove salmon tikka recipe

November 8th, 2010

I upgraded my trusty Origo 1500 a few months ago, and it’s been sat on the boat unused ever since. I’ve temporarily got a microwave on board while I’m ashore doing the refit, and I must confess I’ve gotten very lazy and got used to microwave meals. That’s not good for you, physically because the pre packed meals are usually full of crap, and mentally because there’s a sense of purpose to preparing a meal. It takes time, and that helps the boredom, especially when you live on a tiny boat.

I decided to get my act in order this afternoon though, and went shopping for ingredients. I got back to the boat, tidied the cabin as best as I could given the circumstances, and set up the shiny new Origo 3000. After washing the frying pan and cutlery in my recently installed, hot water equipped sink (oh, the luxury), I started my ad-libbed meal. It was so tasty, that I thought I ought to share it, so here goes.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lime
  • fresh coriander
  • small tub of natural yogurt
  • tikka curry powder
  • 1 salmon fillet
  • Plain naan bread

Squeeze the lime in to the yogurt, then add a good sprig of chopped coriander before stirring it all together.

Skin the salmon fillet, and cut in to strips. Using a bowl, mix a paste of the tikka powder with some olive oil. Add the salmon and mix it all up so the fish is covered.

Fry the salmon for a few minutes, turning halfway, then serve with warm naan, and eat with the yogurt dip.

Dead simple, dead quick, dead tasty.

Now the bad bit… washing up :(
