OnKudu sailing DVD

January 4th, 2011

I need your help, loyal readers. I’m stuck, and so what better people to ask than you.

I’ve been, finally, making some serious headway in to producing a DVD of the first sailing adventure in Kudu. What I published on youtube was probably about 5% of the footage I shot, and although there’s a HUGE amount of wasted tape (plodding through it has made me realise just how bad a cameraman I was when I started!), there’s going to be a lot of so far unseen footage.

The problem is, to follow the OnKudu youtube format is not going to be possible since it’d take up an entire box set, and to be honest, be entirely boring. I therefore have to shrink the whole thing down to about 2 hours or less, which means I’m going to have to be rather brutal with my cutting. I will of course try to include as much unseen footage as possible, but I’m not sure how to tell the story, and that’s where you come in.

What did you enjoy about the Youtube series?

What did you think those videos were lacking?

What would you like to see more of?

If you’d be so kind as to leave your feedback as a comment on this blog post, I’ll hopefully get enough of a feel for what you’d enjoy to get cracking with the editing. I’ve spent two days sifting through the raw footage, and I’m still only on the stuff featured in the 5th episode on Youtube! Once I’ve got it all organised, I’m hoping to have something completed by the end of Feb.

P.S. Happy new year. I’ve just realised this is my first post of 2011. I have something planned for the boat this year too, so it should be a goodun :)

New Video: A sail to Anglesey

June 7th, 2010

Over the late May bank holiday I was invited to a trial sail of my friend’s homebuilt steel yacht. He and his wife have taken early retirement in their early forties and are now just a few days from the start of their global adventure, although as always, it’s starting with a season in the med :)

The aim of the trip was to test the auto pilot, a newly fitted Simrad hydraulic unit. I was there as first mate, capable of handling the boat, and we also had the company of two freshmen crew. It was their first time on a yacht, and we weren’t sure what to expect from them.

It’s obviously a complete change from adventures on Kudu, but at least it’s another sailing video. I’ve been lacking in them recently :(

So, here it is, a voyage from Preston Marina, and around Anglesey in North Wales.

First video of 2010

April 7th, 2010

I thought I’d put a little video together for the first time this year. It introduces Vreli and sees a final voyage with a friend down the river Ribble on Kudu.

Unfortunately, my mac broke so I no longer have Final Cut in which to edit the videos. This one was done in Windows Movie Maker, so it’s not the finest work I’m afraid.

I don’t intend to make this a series. It’s just a one off, but I may post a few Vreli updates as I make more progress. This one is obviously not like the round Britain films, but I hope it’s vaguely entertaining nonetheless.
