Decent sailing sites are often quite hard to find on the internet. It’s not that they don’t exist, because they certainly do, it’s just that filtering through the spam is rather hard work. As such, I’ll add to this list as I find useful sailing/boating sites.
Information sites
Forums and topical sites, from technical advice to liveaboard lifestyle writing.
- Living on Boats
Lots of great information for the aspiring liveaboard. I remember reading this site all those years ago when living on a boat was but a dream.
If you run a sailing blog, or enjoy one that isn’t listed here, please feel free to contact me to tell me about it.
Sailing blog genius
The following are sites that deserve special recognition for documenting something great, and are well worth a visit.
- The Simple Sailor
This is the website of Roger Taylor, the junked rigged nutter (with respect). He’s also a remarkably talented author and currently has two truly brilliant books to his name. The site is not updated often, but every single word on the site has been thought about in great detail, and offers food for thought to any aspiring offshore sailor. - Big Oceans
Nick Jaffe is the person I’d be if I were a bit more… well, like Nick Jaffe. He bought a Contessa 26, and set off from the UK with the intention of sailing to Australia. He did it, and you can follow what happened on his site, which is still regularly updated with his continuing sailing adventures.
