I thought, since I read a lot of books, that it would be a good idea to post my opinion of various sailing related reading material.
The following links are to blog posts I have written about the various books listed, and within those posts you will find a link to the Amazon page where you can buy it (usually a lot cheaper than in the shops too). I get a tiny bit of commission for every book sold (tiny, as in I have so far earned £8), but every little helps, so if you do want to buy it, I’d be very thankful if you could use the links listed. Regardless of how you get them, I hope you find them as enjoyable or useful as I have.
- Voyages of a simple Sailor – Roger D Taylor - This is one of my favorite books
- Against the flow – Dee Caffari
- Force of nature – Robin Knox-Johnston
- A world of my own – Robin Knox-Johnston – A MUST read.
Pilot books that I have used so far.
- East Coast Pilot
- Forth, Tyne, Dogger, and Humber – Henry Irving *unreviewed as yet
Enjoy, feel welcome to comment, and please feel free to suggest books for me to read.

Desperate Voyage, by John Caldwell. This lunatic sails from Panama to Australia to be re-united with his wife following WW2. A true story, amazing.

Hi
I am following your blog about your trip.
I had a similar dream – to get across the atlantic – the AZAB first then perhaps an Atylantic Circuit and I got as far as owning a Vancouver 27 for several years.
Business and family stopped me geting off to do it and now I have MS so have had to give up sailing! Still have an old fishing boat tho!
But enough about me…
In my research for my planned trip I came acrss and read a book called “Verry Willing Griffin” by David Blagden.
He got across the pond in his 19 foot yacht – basically a Squib with a lid!
He was sponsored by one of the big banks who’s logo was a Grifin – hence the boats name.
Found this on the web…
Perhaps the most famous exploit was David Blagden’s epic success in the 1972 Observer Single-handed Transatlantic Race. His diminutive Hunter 19 “Willing Griffin” survived many Atlantic storms and finished the race; the smallest yacht ever to do the official Single-handed Transatlantic. The story of this epic voyage is recounted in the book “Very Willing Griffin” by David Blagden.
Its a good read if you can find a copy…
Take care
Peter
