If I start writing I’ll never stop, so I’m keeping this short since I have a lot to do tonight.
Arrived at Abroath this evening, got put on the pontoon next to none other than Four Bells. We keep bumping into each other. He was planning on moving up to Stonehaven tomorrow, but I’ve nudged him towards going for Peterhead.
It’ll be a 13 hour sail, and the conditions are a little on the high side, but it should be possible.
If the forecast is the same or better tomorrow morning, we’ll be off. Hopefully I’ll be somewhere near Inverness on Friday.

Great progress, I think your plan is spot on, use the still fairly strong N-going ebb to sweep you up the coast.
Going through the canal then Nathan?
you’ll go past fidocty …used to keep my hurley 22 in there
you could spend the night in there
but like a lot of these harbors they dry out.
Batten down the hatches for Wednesday 26th August as the remains of Hurricane Bill will land on Scotland with a south-westerly gale and rain and a fast falling glass (barometer):

Safe passage and have a good watch for your next hop.
Best regards David
Well I think you’d prefer Stonehaven to Fraserburgh and it’s reputedly the home of the battered Mars Bar, If you do go further then let us know please. The small harbours of the Northern edge of Moray and Aberdeenshire are quite nice especially Findochty pronounced finechty and it has a pub at the edge of the harbour although I haven’t drunk there. EIther way let us know where you are in case I can be of assistance although I am away till Friday myself and would be dissapointed to miss you but I know you are trying to get on with it. Either way good luck and God speed…..
I went to Peterhead once hated it! Safe passage where ever you make for. Tuck up out of the gales later in the week….
Personally, I would head for Stonehaven. Much nicer place and should give some good shelter from the SE, especially if you can tuck into the inner harbour (though Peterhead will also give you excellent shelter).
Safe Journey Kudu and crew:)
You’re going through the Great Glen? Beware of Nessie! Seriously, I did the Caledonian Canal about 15 years ago in a mobo (hangs head in shame). It really is a spectacular 60 mile trip. Don’t be fooled into thinking that because it’s inland it will be sheltered. Loch Ness can cut up rough when it’s blowin’ a hoolie. The other lochs are less challenging but just as spectacular.
howz the goose neck repair holding out?
remember to reef the moment you think about it, not 5 mins later!
