Navigators & General

I was insured with Navigators & General but, in true Kudu form, the policy has just expired. I need to renew it before I head out to sea, so I gave them a call, and guess what – they won’t insure me.

Because my boat is under 23 feet, I can only have the small craft policy, at that is limited to 12 miles offshore. The next leg will take me over 20 miles offshore. Thank you Navigators & Generally not sailing that far.

So, now I have the wonderful problem of trying to find an insurance company, in a day, that doesn’t require a survey.

One word springs to mind. Bugger!

What type of cover do you need? I am insured with these: http://www.basic-boat.com who are very competitive but only offer 3rd party liability – if that suits your level of cover then maybe it’s worth a look.

I’ve just phoned Basic Boat and they confirm that Category 3 includes passage making across Irish Sea, North Sea and Channel etc. 12 mile limit doesn’t apply.

I may well switch to them myself on renewal.
