After the trip to Oostende I made the passage from the River Orwell to the River Deben. Gales were forecast for the afternoon, and I decided I could make it in plenty of time before they arrived. I was wrong. The sea picked up with a strong southerly and gave me my first taste of genuinely having the boat on the brink of control as I crossed the Deben bar beam on to a breaking sea.
